Over a span of
50 years Bernard Robins attended to the needs of a diabetic population
in a professional and efficient manner in private practice as
well as on the staff of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Irvington
General Hospital, St. Barnabas Medical Center, Rahway Hospital
and John F. Kennedy Medical Center. At the same time he was a
member of the faculty of the University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey in Newark and the Robert Wood Johnson School of
Medicine in New Brunswick. He has published over thirty scientific
articles in peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Robins was co-founder of the Association of Insulin Pump
Therapists, was the first physician in New Jersey to use the
Biostater and was first to treat patients with an insulin pump.
Dr. Robins concluded his clinical career in 2003, volunteering
his services and expertise for a year at the Hunterdon Medical
Center Diabetes Clinic.
Dr. Robins has engaged his professional talents as
· A Flight Surgeon in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National
Guard;
· President, Essex County Medical Society;
· President, Association of Insulin Pump Therapists;
· Member, Board of Trustees, Academy of Medicine of New
Jersey;
· Member, Board of Trustees, American Diabetes Association,
New Jersey Affiliate;
· Medical Consultant to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation;
· Member, Board of Trustees, Camp Nejeda Foundation;
· Member, Board of Directors of the New Jersey Medical
Underwriters;
· Member, Board of Trustees, Medical Society of New Jersey
and Secretary for 9 years;
· Member of the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners
for 12 years and President for four years.
Dr. Robins presently serves as special advisor for health care
matters to the Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs.
