John Timberlake is the Executive
Vice President and General Manager for Valeritas LLC (Valeritas),
a medical technology company committed to developing and commercializing
innovative drug delivery solutions that directly improve clinical
and humanistic outcomes for patients, with an initial focus on
the treatment of diabetes. Valeritas' portfolio is headlined
by the h-Patch, a discreet, simple-to-use, once-daily, disposable
insulin delivery system that provides 24-hour continuous basal
and on demand bolus (prandial) insulin therapy for patients who
would benefit from more physiologic insulin therapy.
Mr. Timberlake has over 16 years of pharmaceutical industry experience
and during the last nine years, he has focused his efforts in
metabolism with an emphasis in diabetes. Prior to joining Valeritas,
he was the Vice President of Diabetes Marketing at Sanofi-Aventis.
In this role, Mr. Timberlake led all brand marketing efforts
for the company's leading diabetes products, including Lantus®,
Amaryl®, and Apidra®. He also had extensive experience
and commercial responsibilities related to in-licensing, co-promoting
and for new products in development at Aventis and at Hoechst
Marion Roussel, including inhaled insulin and a wide range of
other metabolic and diabetes therapeutic compounds.
Mr. Timberlake is proud of the many accomplishments that teams
under his leadership had in bringing better diabetes treatment
to more patients. These efforts included increasing the awareness
and importance of A1C, the importance to treat to glycemic goals,
the lowering of managed care treatment goals and the benefits
of insulin therapy, especially for the millions of patients with
Type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled. Through the development
of programs, establishments of partnerships and the investment
of human and financial resources, real change in patient treatment
has occurred thanks to efforts such as Aim Believe Achieve, A1C<7
by 2007, d-Life, Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD), the
Diabetes Care Coalition and a wide variety of both CME and patient
educational programs.
Mr. Timberlake is a member of the American Diabetes Association,
the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the
American Association of Diabetes Educators and he continues to
contribute to grass root programs such as TCOYD.
